LEDs - Could save the planet

What is all the fuzz about LEDs. Well we had the Incandescent light, then came the CFL light, and now we move toward the LED light. The difference? An energy savings of 10x!

www.insist.com A lot has changed in LED technology. In the early days we had a matrix of basic LEDs. Then came the white LEDs. Now we have the high-power LEDs.
With the new high power LEDs is it possible to create the same lumes with ONE LED as with a Incandescent lamp. However we have a big difference; Where the Incandescent lamp is happy at a high temperature, the LED light gets destroyed or its life-time gets reduced dramatically if used over a certain temperature.
So a lot of research has been done by some key players like Philips and Osram to improve the thermodynamics of an LED light.
The result can be seen in different cooling solutions and special alloys that disperse the heat. So we have LED lights that might look identical, but the better ones have a 20,000h life-span where the wrongly designed could last less than an Incandescent light. So watch out if you plan large installations. We will tell you what to look out for.
